Yesterday’s threats were development of high-density housing, which a dedicated group of Uplands neighbors successfully thwarted by initiative petition. Today’s threats are the invasion of English Ivy, Clematis, Holly, Himalayan Blackberry, and Garlic Mustard. Friends of Springbrook Park is successfully controlling these nonnative plants by its invasive removal programs. The Friends and volunteers work in partnership with the City of Lake Oswego to preserve and protect the park’s natural resources by providing educational activities and events for its users.
The Friends group has returned to working actively in the park. Along with many volunteers, we have been planting native plants, cleaning up downed limbs to reduce fire hazard, removing invasive plants, and spreading gravel on park trails where needed.”
